Once again, we are venturing forth. This time was a little odd. We packed up our entire apartment and put everything into storage. It's strange to see our lives crammed into a 15 x 20 space. We simultaneously had to pack for our road trip to the west coast and for a backpacking trip we will take in July.
We spent Sunday in Fargo seeing friends. This morning, we gave Matt's car to his brother (for keeps - now a one car family!) then drove west. We crossed all of North Dakota and a good chunk of Montana.
Searching for a campground was interesting. We made better time than expected, and Matt had only investigated campgrounds before Billings. I called a few places and was dismayed to hear charges of $35-40 a night to camp at essentially an RV park.
One particular place, near Custer, Montana, was "only" $25 a night. We figured we'd check it out. I wish I had snagged a photo; the "campground" was a gravel parking lot alongside I-94 outside of a dinky restaurant/casino.
Only slightly daunted, we forged on. I checked the maps and waited for 'net service on my phone to google sites. And, then, I found it. Our lovely and FREE municipal campground.
Tonight, we are in Columbus, Montana. Our spot is surrounded by lovely cottonwoods, and a river is just a two minute walk from our spot. We keep hearing the call of thrushes. The campgrounds are free-will donation, so I will spend a little something. But, still, thank you Columbus and yay for camping.
