I've been quite busy over here. I'm preparing to go back to school to earn my teaching license; that will be a two year process, and it begins in just three weeks. I'll also be a teacher's assistant to help defray the cost of attendance. I also have three more weeks left of work. Matt and I have been having lots of fun this summer, but I have been a busy, busy bee.
Nevertheless, I had time to fit in one thing just for me: I achieved goal #25: Take an art class. I went to a natural dyes class at my local nature center, and we learned how to dye fabric with tea, carrots, and red cabbage. I chose to focus on the tea and cabbage dying. Turns out that red cabbage results in a beautiful blue color. Ever impatient, I finished up my dying tonight, but a few more days of sitting in the cabbage liquid would have resulted in a darker color. I used 100% cotton handkerchiefs.
The class was great fun, and I look forward to dying more of my own fabric in the future. Not sure how today's hankies will be used -- perhaps in decor? -- but I am already thrilled at the addition of some extra lovely in my life.
Oh, and yes, I will try to get better pictures that really show off my new creations. And I will definitely share as I discover more natural things that bring me lovely colors.
