Of course I don't watch it too often

Janet just posted a lovely list of the top five movies she never gets sick of. I, too, love to watch some movies over. And over. And over. I probably have even more than five, but I'll try to just select my top five. Matt's lucky in that I often wait until he's not around to rewatch most of these.

1. Ten Things I Hate about You

One of the few movies I saw in the theater twice. Every time I see it, I'm reminded of high school. The movie was filmed in Seattle, and a high school friend is even in the credits. His name is Eric, and he's the guy pushing the AV cart at the beginning of the movie.

2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

So sad. So beautiful.

3. Life as a House

Another sad movie. But also full of hope and optimism for better relationships and healing some day.

4. When Harry Met Sally

Is there a person out there who can't find at least one Meg Ryan movie they like? This one is full of good humor along with a long timeline of trendy female haircuts. I also really love the fall leaves in many of the scenes.

5. Boondock Saints

Irish vigilantes, hot accents, and beautiful views of Boston.

Summer of Dresses

Today is literally my second day off work so far this month. And what better way to celebrate than to get into the "Summer of Dresses" trend? Powered by facebook and twitter, many lovely ladies are resolving to embrace the dress and take this summer to fancy up a bit.

I wore a dress to work on Friday (it was a planning day with no camps), and I'm hoping to wear some more to work once I hit the thrift store for a play dress or two. No good getting nice dresses dirty, but I'm confident that I will find a play dress or two. After all, little girls wear them, so why can't I?

I also wore a dress to church today. I just snapped a few photos; Snowball wanted to come along, so I'll show you both.

There's also an awesome website where anywhere can share pictures of their summer dresses. It is super easy to submit via email. Oh, and for the gents, there is also Summer of Dapper. Here's to hoping this is a trend that can sweep the nation and encourage all of us to get some more use out of our nicer duds. If you decide to play along, let me know!

Turtles

I'm teaching a day camp on turtles this week. Today, my 4-6 year olds got to touch turtles, make their own turtle shells (out of tissue paper and paper plates), and got some turtle clues from old turtle.

While looking up something about turtle anatomy for the class, I stumbled upon this humorous passage. It's not quite appropriate for the age group in my class, so I thought I'd share it with all of you:

It's egg laying season for turtles right now. Turtles leave their ponds to go lay eggs in dirt/rocks/sand, and this often requires crossing roads. Please remember to watch the road as you drive around!

Summer Kittah

We're taking care of a kitty for the summer. I think that's long enough that I'm going to call goal number 61 good. Getting a permanent cat or dog still isn't practical given our living situation, but a temporary kitty is perfect.

This is Miss Adorable. Her name is Snowball (though chosen without regard for the Simpsons, apparently). She is not a stealthy cat, and she totally loses all the staring contests. What she lacks in those cat departments she makes up for with her utterly adorable mews and love of belly scratching.

This is just a quick shot and a good example of her "uh, wha?" look. I'll try and catch some more good shots over the next two months.

Twins!

A week ago, Matt and I took in our first game at Target Field. For those who don't watch a lot of baseball, that's the brand-new Twins stadium. I am biased, because I love Safeco Field . . . so I have to say that Target Field is the second best stadium in the country. Sure, I haven't been to all the stadiums, but both are so awesome that I don't see how they can be topped.

Okay, so I have to admit that this sign is pretty darn nifty. Also, Target Field was made with some sweet eco-friendly bits and lots of local stone.

I brought my zoom lens and got some decent pictures despite sitting in the outfield. We like sitting out there, but it's not the best for taking pics. This is Cuddyer fouling off a pitch.

Matt diligently kept score.

We really enjoyed the game!

Oh, and a funny story. We got there way early and spent lots of time walking around the stadium. We had just gotten to our seats when Matt took off somewhere. Once I finally caught up, he was chatting with someone who turned out to be a family friend from his hometown! It turns out that the elementary school in town had bought a block of Twins tickets, so I was able to meet a lot of people that watched Matt grow up.

101 things: months 24, 25, and 26

Two full years in! Wow. I still have plenty of goals left to work on. This is my report for March, April, and May. Summer is my high season, so I hope to knock some good ones off this summer.

44. Donate (or attempt to donate) blood three times

I'm done with this one. I made my third attempt to donate blood on 5/17. Again, my iron count was too low. I was only a hair under this time, so I will keep eating leafy greens (and maybe find some iron supplements) and try again in a few months. I'm bummed that I haven't been able to donate, as needles don't bother me.

23. Send art to three different friends

Continues to be in progress. In March, I sent a framed photo to Zandria

She asked for a photo from the Netherlands, as she studied abroad there too. I really love the clean lines of the frame. I'd never done something in the see-through glass frame, but I really like it. I especially love how the photo will take on a different character if the wall is painted.

74. write 4 real letters to friends

Still in progress. I wrote two more, and I've just got one more to go. I've also been sending out some postcards. I cleaned out my desk today and found some excellent ones, so I imagine those will go out one of these days.

I did run a 5k recently. It was a trail race, and I haven't been training much. I didn't beat my previous 5k time, but I did have a good time. Pretty soon here, I'm hoping to start training for a more serious 5k in September (Defeat of Jesse James Day!).

As for the rest, we'll see what the next 7 months hold! My deadline is Christmas of this year.
