* it snowed again last night in Michigan. I think we got at least a half inch. It's supposed to continue for the next three days. I'm glad I got at least a little respite from the snow during my trip to DC.
* I packed a bit of a "ploughman's" lunch today (exception: no bread) for my lunch. I'm trying to put together some new combinations to keep lunch interesting and homemade. I think I've eaten one too many PBJs in my post-high school career; one semester during undergrad, I think I ate two PBJs a day in order to save money before I studied abroad.
Anyway, I put together a little cheese, some salami and peanut butter (try it!), a hard boiled egg, pickles, and some kalamata olives. I'm trying to get better about watching the calories/serving sizes in the food I eat, so I read all the nutrition labels. There were definitely some surprises. First of all, the kalamatas are surprisingly calorie dense: 45 calories per 5 olives. My 10 olives in the lunch are already 90 calories. My baby bel cheese is 70 calories, which isn't bad. I didn't use much PB, and the salami was something like 100 calories per serving. But the most pleasant surprise of all? I've got baby dill Kosher pickles, and they are 5 calories per 3 pickles! Talk about an excellent little snack there.
* Last night, I went to Trader Joe's to pick up teriyaki sauce. I ended up getting the "Hawaiian" style teriyaki, and I also picked up some baby bella mushrooms. I made a surprisingly delicious meal of teriyaki chicken, the bellas, steamed green beans, and cous cous. Better yet, I have leftovers for dinner. Wednesday is a late night, so I'm at school until 8 (and I typically go work out then, so I don't get home until 10). I'll be eating my cous cous and teriyaki at school tonight.
* Despite the snow, it looks like it's going to be a lovely day. I think I'll go start my lovely -- and busy -- day now.
