Just a few of my guilty pleasures . . .
* picking hair off of sweaters/fleeces/etc. There's something about grooming that just calms me. Another grad school friend and I definitely stress groom each other when school gets crazy.
The guilty part comes in here: I like to play a hair picking game when sitting somewhere. I did this a lot in high school (in high school, I spent a lot of time sitting behind someone else and staring at their back). I would try and pick off as many hairs as possible without the person noticing. It was pretty fun. Sometimes, I do that at seminars here at school. It's kind of like a cross between accessing my inner primate and playing Operation.
* cherry cordial chocolates. So yummy and delicious, but so laden with creamy calories. Heck, chocolate in general is a guilty pleasure. There's a few really fabulous little gourmet chocolate places in Ann Arbor, and I love stopping in to buy just two or three pieces. I especially love Schakolad and their key lime truffles (made with white chocolate! yum!). Even better, I feel good supporting them, since their chocolate is made locally on site from natural ingredients. Plus, it has a shorter shelf life, which means less preservatives. There's also another completely locally owned chocolate place on South Main Street that is really awesome.
* taking a bath. It's bad for water conservation, but I just love being surrounded by warm water. I try to make up for my bathing by taking short showers and showering less frequently than most people (I don't shower every day; I've got sensitive skin that dries out easily). There's just something about relaxing somewhere I can't be bothered, enjoying a good book, and knowing I'm also getting clean at the same time.
