I spent tonight trying to line up my trip to New Zealand. Ever prudent, I have decided that it's not quite financially feasible for me to go to Japan right now in addition to NZ (while still enjoying the beauty of NZ and not pinching every penny there), and I'd rather go to NZ. I will have to apologize to my friend in Japan and have her tell me when her next vacation is (perhaps I can go later); I think a little care package to her is in order.
Anyway, NZAir was running a great special. You could fly to Australia for ~ $1,000, including tax, and have a free stopover in Auckland. I thought it looked excellent, and I was just trying to line up dates and figure it all out. I got it all decided with one minute to spare before the midnight deadline, but then I had to type in passenger info. Somehow, I got held up, and my confirm screen listed the ticket price as $9,999, or over 10K with the taxes added in. I don't know how the glitch happened, but I'd rather lose that cheap flight than have the potential of accidentally charging a 10K flight to my credit card.
So, sadly, no ticket yet, but at least I know when I want to fly. I will by calling the travel agent tomorrow a.m. to get this all figured out. It looks like I'll be paying a bit more than 1K, but I will hopefully get a stopover in Fiji out of this whole deal (and perhaps leave from Queenstown, which would save me money).
I knew about this special for over a week, but I wanted to do the Japan trip too, so I didn't act because I was trying to figure out a way to do NZ and Japan for under $2,500. I only made the decision to nix the Japan trip at the last second because I had to do something definitive. I've really got to learn a better way to make decisions. This crap is killing me slowly, and I don't like it.
