The past few days have been so amazing and filled with activity that I haven't even had time to write. On Wednesday, I moved from my parent's home into Seattle into my apartment at school with the help of my wonderful father. Moving went smoothly, and I have almost all my stuff unpacked already (actually, all I have left to unpack are clothes. I have a few things to get from home, but I'm practically all here). Then, that evening, I started Voyager Leader training.
The Voyages is a new program at my school modeled on successful programs that my university's president has started at other schools. In this initial pilot year, there are 68 students going on 7 trips. Each trip is a different experience designed to challenge a group of freshmen. My group (which I'm coleading with another girl) is going to Seattle to experience a Pacific NW urban setting (aside: I'm so excited to show them around my wonderful home city!).
The Voyager training has been intensely wonderful. I've gotten to know a great group of people, and we've had a wonderful time playing games, learning risk management techniques, doing team building exercises, and really just preparing to be leaders and role models for freshmen.
I've got some great pictures of things we've done already. I can't even write well about it yet, but hopefully I'll get some photos up in an album so I can show everyone what a great time we're having.
I'm so happy to be back at school and spending time with people. Not that I don't love my friends from home (because I really, honestly do -- I've got a good core group of people that I adore), but it's delightful to have people who are close by who also understand the exact situation I'm in right now. I've got two great roommates (and we're picking up our final roommate in a week), I've already hung out with several friends, and I'm even meeting new people. Tonight, my roomies and I went out to see King Arthur at the local theater with one of our friends, and it was so nice. It's just great to wander around town and be at school without school things to worry about. If my summer living on campus last year has been as nice as my last few days, life would have been much better. I don't even have my car right now, so I've been relying completely on my feet. Everything is great. I really hope it stays that way, because it looks like this will be a wonderful year.
